Our STEM challenges this week were to create our own monster after reading the story ‘I Need My Monster’ and to create a house of cards. Check out these amazing designs!
This week we were asked to complete two STEM challenges. The first one was to create our name in 3D and the second was to make a bridge that our toy cars could drive over. The work that has been put in so far has been amazing! The boys and girls should be so proud of themselves. They have already shown themselves to be mini engineers!! Well done. Check out some of the creations.
The boys and girls in 2B have been exploring the theme of summer! This week they learnt all about temperature and Lord Kelvin who invented the thermometer. A thermometer measures how hot or cold somewhere is. We measured the temperature each day using a thermometer. We also learnt about boiling and freezing points and how to identify them on a thermometer. 0 degrees means something is at freezing point and 100 degrees means something is at boiling point. We carried out an experiment whereby we froze water until it turned into ice and then we investigated whether salt, sugar and sand speed up the melting process. Check out some of the results! We have also been learning about the honey bee and creating our own fact files. Our art involved creating some honey bee stones to make our garden look pretty. The work completed has been fantastic! Some extra summer themed painting!
First class took a special trip to GMIT to participate in two Science related workshops. The first workshop involved looking at the different components that make up our blood. We then got to make our own blood using sweets! After that we went to one of the lecture halls to listen to some GMIT students and lecturers tell us all about healthy food. A brilliant day out was had by all 😊
